AMY BAXTER of Eco Shanty Studio is a talented entrepreneur and mother of 2 boys living in Tequesta, Florida.
Amy’s background is unique; she comes from a Cape Cod restaurant family. Tradition and life skills are important to Amy; she grew up with her grandmother teaching her the old time crafts like sewing, crochet, jewelry making and needlework. These creative skills have skipped a generation and many women are looking to learn ‘how to’ conquer the deftness of their grandmother’s fingers.
One day she and a friend, by happy accident, created in her kitchen an organic cleaning product which they, in turn, retailed at Whole Foods. This global resources mindset and recycle sensibility led Amy to combine her love for sewing and crafting to create Eco Shanty Studio where summer sewing camp is a favorite with all the kids in the area.
Amy is a breast cancer survivor and while recovering she started crafting and creating nautical appliques and making cute t-shirts and other accessories. This creative streak became the Eco Shanty, where she caters to the crafty workshop crowd. Girls and women come to design clothing and home goods as a group project or in a party type atmosphere. They create embellished t-shirts and jeans with unique and interesting recycled fabric with private groups. The camaraderie creates the old fashion community of women sitting together talking laughing and creating.
“Having a passion for what you enjoy” is Amy’s motto and she lives that passion when she hosts parties for kids and adults.
